The draft LDAR 2021 is highly problematic and is at odds with the inherent ecological fragility and cultural uniqueness of Lakshadweep. It has been put together with scant regard for its implications for Lakshadweep’s environment and people.
We reach out to you as a citizen who cares deeply for the survival and wellbeing of Lakshadweep’s people and ecosystems. A few of us from different disciplinary backgrounds have come together as the Lakshadweep Research Collective to list a series of important concerns about the possible social and ecological consequences of the draft LDAR 2021. We urge you to read this open statement. This petition has two parts: The Cover letter (sent to the Hon'ble President of India) and a list of Annexures. The Annexures detail the specific concerns with the draft LDAR 2021 (Annexure 1) and provide a scientific understanding of Lakshadweep’s detailed social and ecological realities along with a critical analysis of the draft LDAR 2021 (Annexures 2-6). Please follow the tabs above to access these. Please write to us using the contact form if you have questions, concerns or suggestions. We thank you in advance for your support. |
TLRC along with 100 other ecological, social and legal researchers have submitted this letter to the Hon'ble President of India and Lakshadweep Administration; now opening up to wider group of people to gain your support.
